BMX in Andalusia in winter: Málaga and Granada

January weather on the Costa del Sol from AEMET, racing tracks in Mijas, Almuñécar, Padul and Huétor Vega, and how to book time.

Guide updated

Quick answer: In January, the Costa del Sol averages highs of 16.8 °C and lows of 7.4 °C, with 5.8 rainy days and 180 hours of sunshine (AEMET, Málaga airport, 1981-2010). The racing tracks in our directory are in Mijas (Málaga) and Granada: Padul, Almuñécar and Huétor Vega, all three hosts of the 2026 Andalusian Cup. Almería's track is still a project. There is no published hourly rate: ask the council or club.

Málaga and Granada work well together: a mild coast for riding and Andalusian Cup tracks a little over an hour away. Bear in mind that Granada is much colder than the coast in January.

January weather

According to AEMET's climate normals for Málaga airport, January is mild on the coast, though a little wetter than Alicante or Murcia. Almuñécar, on the Granada coast, has a similar climate; Padul and Huétor Vega, next to Granada city, are clearly colder.

How to book track time

No published rate

No council or club publishes an hourly track rate for teams.

Email the council or club with your dates, the number and age of riders, and whether you need the start gate, a coach and insurance. The Andalusian Cycling Federation (+34 956 34 88 12) can help, and its Cup calendar shows which tracks are active.

Checklist before booking
  • Written confirmation, with hours and gate use.
  • A valid federation licence or insurance.
  • Warm clothing for the inland Granada tracks.
  • A flight to Málaga (AGP) or Granada (GRX) with the bike added to the booking.
