BMX tracks in the Basque Country
The 23 verified BMX venues in the Basque Country: 21 pump tracks, 1 racing track and 1 bikepark, each with its own page and a guide by discipline and province.
The Basque Country is pump track territory: 21 of bmx.es’s 23 verified venues in the region are pump tracks spread across towns and neighbourhoods, led by Bizkaia (14 venues), then Gipuzkoa (6) and Álava (3). Racing has a single track, in Trapagaran, and the Ibailakua venue in Vitoria-Gasteiz completes the list. Here they all are, each linked to its own page.
Pump track, racing or bikepark: what the Basque Country offers and who it suits
- Pump track: a closed loop of rollers and berms ridden without pedalling, by “pumping” with your body. Any bike works (freestyle BMX, MTB, even a scooter), it is free and no licence is needed. It is the dominant discipline in the Basque Country and the ideal way in: kids starting out, adults coming back, and anyone after pumping technique.
- BMX racing (track): a dirt track with a start gate and banked berms, the competition discipline. The Basque Country has just one verified track, the municipal one in Trapagaran (Bizkaia): if your child wants to race, the route runs through there and its club.
- Bikepark / skatepark: features, jumps or ramps for riders who already have the basics. The Basque entry in the directory is the Ibailakua venue in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Lakua).
The practical reading: in the Basque Country you start and train on pump tracks, and racing is one specific, localised option rather than a network of tracks.

Pump track
Starting from zero
Start at your town’s pump track: no licence, no special bike, no sign-up. In Bizkaia you have Basurtu-Zorrotza in Bilbao, or the ones in Derio and Berango; in Gipuzkoa, Arrobitxulo in Donostia, or Irun; and in Álava, Laudio/Llodio or Zabalgana in Vitoria-Gasteiz. Wear a helmet from day one — see the BMX helmets guide — and read the skatepark and track etiquette before you go. If you do not have a bike yet, the first BMX guide explains what to buy without overspending.
Going with kids
With 21 pump tracks spread across the three provinces, almost every Basque district has one nearby for first sessions at quiet times. Before buying the bike, read the BMX for kids guide: size goes by height, not age, and a certified helmet is mandatory from day one.
Racing competitively
If the goal is racing, the Basque reference is the Trapagaran municipal track (Bizkaia), the region’s only verified racing track: the route runs through its club, with a race bike in your category size and a federation licence to compete. Calendar, licences and categories are on the racing hub. And if you are in Álava, Vitoria-Gasteiz also has the Ibailakua venue (Lakua) to ride.
